🌸 Cerinthe- Honeywort 6 Jumbo Plug Plants
Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’, commonly known as Honeywort, is a distinctive and highly ornamental hardy annual, grown for its elegant blue-green foliage and nodding clusters of deep purple-blue bracts surrounding small, nectar-rich flowers.
Each arching stem carries layered, waxy bracts that create a striking, almost sculptural effect, bringing rich colour contrast and a relaxed, natural feel to borders and arrangements.
With its flowing habit and unique colouring, Honeywort adds depth, texture and a contemporary edge to both garden planting and cut flower displays.

🌿 Hardiness & growing note
Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’ is typically grown as a hardy annual in the UK. In South Devon, it performs reliably throughout the growing season and may occasionally self-seed in favourable conditions.
It thrives in a sunny or lightly shaded position and prefers well-drained soil.
🌸 Flowering & habit
Honeywort produces arching stems lined with soft, rounded leaves and clusters of drooping, tubular flowers held within richly coloured bracts. The combination of foliage and bloom creates a fluid, layered look that moves gently through planting.
Plants develop a relaxed, branching habit, making them ideal for:
- cutting gardens
- mixed borders
- cottage garden planting
Its unusual colouring makes it especially valuable for adding contrast and interest to arrangements.
🌞 Flowering season
Cerinthe flowers from early spring into summer, with regular picking encouraging continued production of fresh stems.
🐝 Pollinator friendly
The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, making Honeywort a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
🌱 Growing conditions
Easy to grow and low maintenance, Cerinthe performs best in:
full sun or partial shade
well-drained soil
Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant and thrive in lighter soils. Avoid heavy or waterlogged conditions, particularly in cooler weather.
Regular cutting will encourage fresh growth and prolong the display.

We plant out ahead of the heavy frosts and cold nights to allow Cerinthe to get established before the Winter, spacing plants approximately 30–40 cm apart.
Water well after planting and keep lightly moist while establishing. Once settled, plants require minimal care, and regular cutting will encourage continued growth and flowering.
