Cerinthe – Honeywort (6 Jumbo Plug Plants)

If you’re looking for a plant that’s unusual, colourful, and endlessly charming in the garden, Cerinthe is a must-have. Sometimes known as Honeywort, this eye-catching plant brings a touch of the Mediterranean to your borders, containers, and cutting beds. It’s a favourite with gardeners who love soft, pastel blooms with a playful twist, and it’s equally adored by pollinators, making it both beautiful and beneficial.

Cerinthe produces slender, arching stems topped with tubular, bell-shaped flowers that are usually soft blues, lavenders, or purples, surrounded by striking bracts in shades of silver, green, or purple depending on the variety. This combination of colour and texture gives the plant a delicate, whimsical feel — perfect for naturalistic or cottage-style gardens, and stunning when included in bouquets or dried flower arrangements.

What makes Cerinthe particularly special is how it attracts bees and other pollinators. Its tubular flowers are packed with nectar, making it one of the best plants for supporting your local wildlife while also providing long-lasting colour. Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies all adore it, so you’ll have a buzzing, lively garden in no time.

Your plants are raised here in our South Devon nursery, grown in peat-free compost from the moment they germinate. We supply them as 6 jumbo plug plants, large enough to establish quickly once planted. They’re carefully packed in our hado bags, which are biodegradable or reusable, keeping your plants hydrated and protected during delivery while reducing plastic waste.

Why Cerinthe Belongs in Your Garden

Cerinthe is a versatile and easy-to-grow plant that works in many settings:

  • Borders and edges: Its arching stems and delicate blooms soften strong shapes and fill gaps beautifully.

  • Containers and pots: Perfect for adding height and colour to patios or balconies.

  • Cutting and floral design: The subtle, soft-toned flowers add texture and interest to bouquets and arrangements.

  • Wildlife-friendly gardens: Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds love it, helping to encourage a buzzing, healthy garden.

It’s not just a pretty face — Cerinthe is surprisingly hardy once established. It prefers a sunny spot with well-drained soil and tolerates dry conditions better than many other annuals. With minimal maintenance, it will reward you with long-lasting blooms and an ever-changing palette of delicate colours.

Delivery Information

Cerinthe plants are dispatched mid to late March, with Royal Mail sending an email or text once your order has been dispatched. Because each variety grows at its own pace, exact timing may vary slightly — but rest assured, your plants will arrive healthy, hydrated, and ready to go in the garden.

Growing Cerinthe

Plant your plugs after the last frost in a sunny, well-drained spot. Cerinthe grows quickly, forming elegant arching stems with clusters of tubular blooms. Once established, it is drought-tolerant, but young plants will appreciate regular watering to help roots establish. Deadheading is not strictly necessary, but removing spent flowers will encourage more blooms.

It works beautifully when mixed with pastel or wildflower-style plantings, and its silvery-green foliage adds contrast to darker-leaved plants. Whether you’re planning a cottage border, pollinator-friendly garden, or cutting patch, Cerinthe offers texture, colour, and charm in equal measure.
