POTOMAC DARK ORANGE – Tall Snapdragon
For gardeners who love rich, vibrant colours that create drama and warmth, Potomac Dark Orange is an absolute showstopper. This tall, cutting-grade snapdragon produces deep burnt-orange to terracotta blooms that bring instant energy to borders and cutting gardens. If you grow warm-toned planting schemes or autumn-inspired bouquets, this is a must-have variety.
The Potomac series is prized for its reliability: tall, straight stems; excellent colour; and fantastic vase life. Dark Orangeis one of the boldest shades in the entire range, offering a depth and richness that makes it stand out brilliantly among softer pastels. In the garden, it adds warmth, contrast, and that much-loved vertical movement that only tall, florist-grade snapdragon varieties can provide.
Colour-wise, this variety shifts beautifully depending on light and temperature. Some blooms lean toward warm amber or copper, while others deepen into rusty terracotta and fiery orange-red. This natural variation brings movement and interest to planting schemes and makes bouquets instantly more dynamic. It pairs superbly with burgundy, chocolate cosmos, golds, honey yellows, dusty purples, bronzes, and vibrant greens.
Your plants are raised in our South Devon nursery in peat-free compost, and we supply them as 6 jumbo plug plants. They arrive in protective hado bags — reusable or biodegradable, helping us reduce plastic while ensuring your plants reach you healthy and hydrated.
Why Potomac Dark Orange Stands Out
This is the variety for gardeners who want impact. The colour is bold but not overpowering — rich, layered, warm, and full of depth. It creates a sense of drama without harshness, and the tall stems give borders structure and presence, drawing the eye upward and adding height to mixed plantings.
For cutting gardens, it’s a true treasure. The long, sturdy stems are ideal for arranging, and the colour is beloved by florists for late-summer and autumn themes. Whether you’re making warm, sunset-inspired bouquets or richly toned harvest arrangements, Potomac Dark Orange brings depth, vibrancy, and movement.
Pollinators love it too. Bees happily explore the tall flowering spikes, enjoying the classic snapdragon shape that offers both nectar and shelter.

Growing Potomac Dark Orange
Plant after the final frost in a sunny or lightly sheltered spot. Potomac varieties grow tall and may appreciate a little support in windy gardens. Regular cutting encourages new flowering stems and keeps the plants producing right through summer and into early autumn. Water consistently during dry spells and feed lightly for best performance.
