Once you’ve grown Orach in your garden it will make itself at home – you have been forewarned!! We welcome any volunteer seedlings that appear at the farm because I know it will look after itself, grow to at least 6ft and I can harvest the seed stems all summer! It is a fabulous bouquet filler – so understated in the garden but a real scene stealer in an arrangement!
Growing Guide:
This annual will grow itself… super easy to grow, germination takes between 7-14 days around 20 C. It will grow easily when sown directly onto a warm soil. The seed pods are ready to harvest when fully coloured and formed up the stem.
Saving seed and sharing locally sourced seeds varieties are so important for a variety of reasons…
Often the seeds are better suited to the specific UK growing environment, soil conditions and pests of the area increasing the likelihood of successful sowings and higher yields from flower harvests.
Supporting local seed suppliers helps preserve genetic diversity which is crucial for maintaining resilient plant populations and ensuring the survival of native plant varieties.
Locally sourced seeds reduce the carbon footprint associated with imported seed supporting sustainable agriculture.
