Lavatera Malope Trifida Vulcan – Cutting Variety (6 Jumbo Plug Plants)
Lavatera Malope Trifida Vulcan is one of the most vibrant, generous and easy-to-grow annuals you can add to a cutting patch or cottage-style border. Known for its rich, saturated magenta-crimson flowers and its long, branching stems, this variety brings an immediate sense of colour and abundance to the garden. The blooms have a satiny sheen that catches the light beautifully, and each one sits elegantly along the stems, creating a loose, airy structure ideal for natural-style arranging. If you are looking for a reliable summer performer that flowers for months and produces armfuls of stems with very little fuss, Malope Trifida Vulcan is an exceptional choice.
Our Lavatera Malope Trifida Vulcan is grown here on the farm in South Devon from our own saved seed. We’ve selected and saved from the strongest, most floriferous plants over several seasons, resulting in a healthy, vigorous strain that performs consistently both in borders and in the cutting garden. These plants are raised in peat-free compost and supplied as six robust jumbo plug plants, each with strong root systems and early-season vigour. We pack the plugs in biodegradable and reusable hado bags to protect the roots and keep them evenly hydrated during delivery, ensuring they reach you in excellent condition and ready to plant.
Malope Vulcan is prized for its ability to provide continuous colour from early summer through to the first frosts. Once established, it branches freely, producing a generous number of long, elegant stems topped with vivid magenta flowers that stand out beautifully against the fresh green foliage. The flowers are shaped like small, delicate trumpets with a slightly pleated texture, and their colouring is particularly intense in sunlight. In arrangements, Malope Vulcan adds height, movement and a welcome splash of rich colour, complementing soft pinks, dark reds, whites, lilacs and blues.
This variety is especially appreciated by both gardeners and florists because it is so low-maintenance and productive. Hardy once established, it thrives in full sun, copes well with poorer soils, and flowers over an impressively long season. With regular picking or deadheading, it will continue to push out fresh stems right into autumn, making it one of the most hard-working annuals in the cutting garden. It is also highly attractive to pollinators, giving your garden both beauty and ecological value.

How to grow Lavatera Malope Trifida Vulcan
Plant in full sun after the risk of frost has passed, in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter if possible. Space plants 30–40 cm apart to allow for branching. Water well to help them establish, then water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first few weeks. Malope Vulcan will flower continuously if picked frequently, so keep harvesting stems to encourage more growth. Deadhead any spent blooms if you are not cutting regularly. Feed lightly through the season to support ongoing flowering. Protect young plants from slugs early on, though they quickly become resilient once established.
