Delphinium Elatum Candle Lavender Shades – Cutting Variety (6 Jumbo Plug Plants)

Delphinium Elatum Candle Lavender Shades is a tall, elegant and beautifully refined delphinium, bred for its slim candle-like spires, early flowering habit and exceptional stem quality. Part of the traditional Candle Series, this variety produces long, tapering flower spikes packed with soft lavender, lilac and mauve-toned blooms, each one carrying the classic depth and texture that make delphiniums such enduring favourites in both cottage gardens and cutting patches. Candle Lavender Shades offers all the drama and height of the well-known giant strains, but with a more slender and architectural outline that gives borders a graceful, vertical lift.

Our Delphinium Elatum Candle Lavender Shades are grown here in South Devon in peat-free compost, raised specifically for cutting-grade strength and supplied as six robust jumbo plug plants. Each plug is hand-selected for uniformity, vigour and root strength, giving you plants that establish quickly and produce long, straight stems ideal for floral arranging. We pack our plants in biodegradable and reusable hado bags that keep the roots protected and hydrated during transit, ensuring they arrive in excellent condition and ready to plant.

The Candle Series is beloved by gardeners and florists for its naturally elegant silhouette. Where some tall delphiniums produce broad, bulky spires, Candle Lavender Shades retains a more refined shape: narrower, slightly lighter in structure, and with excellent balance between foliage and flowering stem. This makes it particularly valuable in gardens where space is limited, where airflow is necessary, or where a lighter, more naturalistic look is preferred. Despite its slender appearance, it remains a strong and dependable performer, with upright stems, early flowering tendencies and a reliable second flush when deadheaded promptly.

The colouring of Candle Lavender Shades is one of its most compelling features. The blooms range from soft lavender to gentle lilac, occasionally washed with silvery undertones that catch the light beautifully on overcast days. These cooler, calm tones pair effortlessly with pastels, whites, silvers and soft pinks, making it a versatile choice for romantic borders, modern planting schemes and early summer arrangements. In the vase, its refined shape and long-lasting flower spikes add height and a sense of movement, complementing airy fillers such as ammi, daucus and orlaya.
