Always the first annual to bloom on the flower farm each year, Cerinthe is a beautiful unique flower that keeps on flowering for months. Understated in the garden it really comes into its own as a cut flower. Give this unusual flower a go!
Growing Guide:
An easy to grow hardy annual, germination takes 10-20 days at an average temp of 15 C. We start our seeds in late Autumn and Spring – the seeds can be soaked in water for 3-4 hours for easier germination.
We plant out in November from an Autumn sowing and late March from Spring sowing, the plants are very hardy and will take a British winter no problem. We pinch the plants to encourage branching and keep harvesting stems for months. The bees also love these flowers!
Saving seed and sharing locally sourced seeds varieties are so important for a variety of reasons…
Often the seeds are better suited to the specific UK growing environment, soil conditions and pests of the area increasing the likelihood of successful sowings and higher yields from flower harvests.
Supporting local seed suppliers helps preserve genetic diversity which is crucial for maintaining resilient plant populations and ensuring the survival of native plant varieties.
Locally sourced seeds reduce the carbon footprint associated with imported seed supporting sustainable agriculture.
