Peony Sweet Sixteen
£10.00
Sweet Sixteen is a romantic, ruffled full double peony with a delicate fragrance to add to her charm. She is an excellent cut flower and rewards very little care with a profusion of flower blooms.
She is perfect as a cut flower and we love growing her here on our flower farm in Devon, she rewards us with big blousy blooms every Early-Mid June – around the same time as Sarah Bernhardt or just slightly earlier. Pick peonies when they are in soft marshmallow bud… (not when they are hard bullets as they may not open!)

Sweet Sixteen is a soft pastel pink with a beautiful delicate fragrance – the quintessential romantic cottage garden peony.
She grows best in full sun or light shade, in rich, well-drained soil. Plant the bareroot so that the buds sit no more than 2 inches below the surface, as deep planting can prevent flowering.
Once established peonies can live for years with very little maintenance and reward you with flowers year ofter year. Support may be needed for heavy flowers or windy conditions – avoid water logged soil but don’t allow to dry out. You can plant in a pot but keep well watered – We find they do best in the ground where the peony root will multiply and grow to a large size which you could divide and make more plants in years to come!
One Bare root supplied with a minimum of 3 eyes.
IMPORTANT
If you are planning to cut the flowers from your peony plants it is important to make sure that you wait 3 years (I know!) because the plant needs time to establish itself – when you do cut from the plant you must only take up to 2/3 of the blooms and try not to cut to the base of the stems – just take what you need!
Peonies are long lasting perennial plants and need some leaves left for the growing season to establish enough strength for themselves for the following years blooms. If you take too much one year you are taking away from the nest years flowers. Peonies can last up to 75 years when happily situated so this one time investment is a great garden plant that will reward you for decades!
